A guitar player from age 10 or so I went from garage type bands to real bands and played mostly rockabilly, blues and country for 50 years. I bought a pawn shop Kay banjo mostly because I had the $30.00 about 1980 and fell in love with the banjo right away although I never really put any effort into learning to play it. 10 Years ago I started trying to be a better player and I feel I have made it to advanced novice using a somewhat 3 finger style. I would love to learn clawhammer but have been a total failure so far as I always end up with a 2 finger thumb lead that just works natural for me. The family wants me to improve as much as I do. I plan to get some videos and work it out. Sorry to say I don't even know another banjo player so not much chance to jam. I play 5 or 6 gigs a year at children camps but mostly just irritate the wife and dogs. As an update the Bio I have been working with a couple local bands and doing some jams. I have improved on my three finger style, still play a clawhammerish up/down picking sorta banjo beating. I quit worrying about what style to play and just play the Banjo and try to do what the song needs. I play a lot but play for fun.
